Stone urns brimming with flowers and charming horse-shoe shaped windows are just a hint of the character and quality to be found inside the doors of The Horseshoe Inn, located in the village of Eddleston, close to Peebles and just 30 minutes south of Edinburgh on the A703.
This former blacksmith’s smiddy is home to Bardoulet’s (Fine Dining) Restaurant and the more informal Bistro, whilst the village’s former Victorian Primary School has been tastefully converted and provides the setting for eight individually designed, cosy 4 Star Guest Rooms.
Vivienne and Patrick Bardoulet have been managing The Horseshoe Inn since it re-opened after extensive refurbishment under new ownership in November 2005 and within 2 years, it was awarded 3 AA Rosettes and AA Restaurant of the Year for Scotland 2007-2008 followed by the EatScotland Gold Award.
Chef Director, Patrick Bardoulet, together with his skilled kitchen team uses only the freshest ingredients to create his imaginative, ever-changing menus, which make extensive use of local produce. Patrick draws on the influences of his French homeland to prepare classical French cuisine, but the menus are also shaped by his experience of working in top-rated establishments across England, Ireland, Denmark and Cyprus. In the Bistro, the comprehensive menu is also changed regularly and offers delicious food in a relaxed setting. Guests can also enjoy traditional Sunday lunch menus and Patrick’s special Gourmet Evenings.
After a full day exploring the local countryside and towns of the Scottish Borders – or enjoying the shops and attractions of nearby Edinburgh - the Inn’s comfortable bedrooms, decorated in soft, warm colours, make a welcome retreat.
Perfectly placed for visitors to enjoy walking and cycling, The Horseshoe Inn’s location close to the River Tweed also offers the chance to enjoy a fishing break on one of the world’s greatest rivers. Through a partnership with the Tweed Guide, Scotland’s foremost guiding organization for fly fishing, you can try your hand at fishing for trout, grayling, sea trout and salmon, with expert knowledge and guidance – and all equipment provided.
Whether your journey is taking you beyond the Borders and you need a welcoming Inn for the night, or whether you’re spending a few days exploring this fascinating area, a warm welcome and some of Scotland’s finest food awaits you at The Horseshoe Inn.
